Abstract

In this paper, a modified quality function deployment (QFD) technique including Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (FAHP) and Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) method is used for engine room design of vessels. QFD, having lots of applications in the literature is an effective methodology to use product research and development (R&D). However, none of the studies in the literature considers dependencies among technical characteristics into account. Therefore, to fill in this gap, a modified QFD approach by integrating DEMATEL technique has been proposed to literature. In the literature, DEMATEL technique is utilized to present importance degrees of design parameters and casual relations based on the interactions among them. The proposed model is applied to engine room design of vessels to evaluate the design factors which play important role on the engine room design.
