In this study, cemented paste backfill (CPB) samples in plastic cylinders with dimensions of 10x20 cm and 5x10 cm, included copper tailings provided from Kastamonu-Küre mineral processing plant were prepared using Portland cement (as control) and instead of Portland cement, as a replacement of it,  20% blast furnace slag (BFS) and perlite (P) were applied separately. At the end of 7-56 days of curing period, unconfined compressive strength (UCS) and ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV) tests of samples were practiced and effect of sample size on the strength and ultrasonic properties of CPB was investigated. While the strength and ultrasonic properties of control samples at early curing times (7-14 days) were higher than samples prepared with  BFS and P, samples prepared with BFS were exceeded the control samples at 28-56 days. CPB samples with 5x10 cm produced higher UCSs (6-65%) and UPVs (up to 6.5%) than those of 10x20 cm at all curing times and mixture properties. Additionally, the strength gap between small and large samples decreased with increasing curing time. It was obtained that there is a linear relationship having a strong correlation coefficient between UCS and UPV. These findings presented the importance of sample size for reliable and economic paste backfill design.
