Özet

Rock cutting by drag picks involves complex mechanical processes which are hard to be represented with conventional strength tests. The most accurate method for rock cuttability assessment is to directly cut rocks in laboratory. Such tests are, however, only carried out in a limited number of laboratories in the world. Because of that, a new apparatus, the vertical rock cutting rig (VRCR), was developed for conducting rock cutting tests. It is simple to operate VRCR, since it is a mobile cutting testing equipment and is an attachment to hydraulic bending test machines which are usually equipped in almost every rock mechanics laboratory. Details about the VRCR were presented, in the paper, along with pros and cons of the rock cutting testing equipment. Furthermore, the test results on the new testing apparatus were also presented.
