High Energy Physics | Department of Physics, Karadeniz Technical University

Dr. Mehmet Demirci is a Professor of High Energy Physics at Karadeniz Technical University, Trabzon, Türkiye. He completed his B.Sc. in Physics Education in 2008 and earned his Ph.D. in Physics in 2015, both from KTU.

With an academic career at KTU spanning over 15 years, Dr. Demirci has progressed from Research Assistant (2009–2015) to Assistant Professor (2015–2020) and Associate Professor (2020–2025). Since 2025, he has held the position of Professor within the department. His international academic experience includes serving as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA (2021–2022) and as a Visiting Professor at the University of Oxford, UK.

Dr. Demirci is dedicated to training the next generation of physicists, offering a comprehensive range of courses for undergraduate, M.Sc., and Ph.D. students:

  • Fundamental Physics: Physics I & II, Classical Mechanics

  • Advanced Theory: Quantum Mechanics, Mathematical Methods in Physics

  • Particle Physics: Gauge Field Theory, Quantum Electrodynamics (QED), and Modern Particle Physics

Research Interests

Our research group explores fundamental questions in theoretical physics with a strong emphasis on phenomenology:

  • High Energy Physics Phenomenology: Investigating the Standard Model (SM) and New Physics Beyond the SM (BSM). We focus on models with extended scalar sectors—such as MSSM, 2HDM, and the Inert Doublet Model—analyzing data from both hadron and electron-positron colliders.

  • Neutrino Physics: Probing SM and BSM physics through neutrino-electron scattering and Coherent Elastic Neutrino-Nucleus Scattering (CEvNS).

  • Mathematical & Quantum Physics: Analytical and numerical solutions of relativistic and non-relativistic wave equations. We also research the thermodynamic properties of quantum systems and the emerging field of Quantum Computation.

Publications & Academic Profiles

Dr. Demirci has authored more than 70 papers in prestigious peer-reviewed journals and international conference proceedings.
