Biography

Dr. Mehmet Demirci works as a Professor of High Energy Physics in the Department of Physics, Karadeniz Technical University (KTU), Trabzon, TurkeyHe received his bachelor’s degree (2008 : Physics Education, Department of Science and Mathematics for Secondary Education) and Ph.D. degree (2015 : Physics) at the Karadeniz Technical University. He began his academic career as a research assistant (2009-2015) and Associate Professor (2020-2025) in the department of physics, KTU. Since 2025, he has been working as a full Professor of High Energy Physics. He was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA, during 2021-2022 term, and also previously as a visiting professor at the University of Oxford.

His research focuses primarily on theoretical and phenomenological aspects of high energy physics, including:

  • High Energy Physics Phenomenology: Standard Model (SM) and new physics beyond the SM, particularly based on models with extended scalar sectors such as MSSM, 2HDM, Inert Doublet Model, etc., at hadron colliders and electron-positron colliders.
  • Neutrino Physics: SM and new physics beyond SM from neutrino-electron scattering and coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering.
  • Mathematical & Quantum Physics: Bound state solutions of relativistic and nonrelativistic wave equations for some potentials in the physics. Thermodynamics properties of different quantum systems. He is also interested in Quantum Computation.

He teaches a range of undergraduate, graduate and Ph.D.-level courses, including Physics I&II, Quantum Mechanics, Mathematical Methods in Physics, Gauge Field Theory, Modern Particle Physics, Classical Mechanics and Special Functions in Physics. More than 70 papers were published in peer-reviewed journals and international conferences. You can access the papers from https://avesis.ktu.edu.tr/mehmetdemirci/publicationsHe is actively involved in international collaborations, including COST Actions on quantum gravity phenomenology and cosmology. He also serves as a reviewer for international journals and has organized and contributed to numerous conferences. For more information: http://aves.ktu.edu.tr/mehmetdemirci/.
