EMPEDSCON (Electrical Machines, Power Electronics, Drive Systems and Control Research Group) is an interdisciplinary research group operating within the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Karadeniz Technical University. Led by Prof. Dr. Halil İbrahim OKUMUŞ, the research group conducts research and development activities in the fields of electrical machines, power electronics, motor drive systems, digital control, automation technologies, intelligent energy systems, renewable energy applications, artificial intelligence-supported control methods, and cybersecurity.
The laboratories operating under EMPEDSCON provide a sustainable research ecosystem in which theoretical studies are supported by experimental validation, real-time control applications are developed, and academic knowledge is integrated with industrial applications. Research activities particularly focus on power electronic converters, grid-connected inverter systems, microgrids, electric vehicle charging technologies, embedded systems, intelligent automation applications, energy management systems, data-driven control methods, and cybersecurity solutions for industrial control systems.
EMPEDSCON aims to produce scientific and technological contributions in the fields of sustainable energy technologies, digital transformation, green energy applications, and intelligent infrastructure systems while supporting research activities aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The research group also considers the development of qualified human resources, strengthening academia-industry collaborations, enhancing domestic technological capacity, and transforming engineering solutions into societal benefits among its primary objectives.
