Biography

Prof. Dr. Şenol Akın was born in Akçaabat/Trabzon in 1974. A 1991 graduate of the Karadeniz Technical University, Sürmene Faculty of Marine Sciences, Prof. Dr. Akın worked as a Research Assistant at the same faculty between 1993 and 1995. In 1995, as a YÖK (Council of Higher Education) scholarship recipient, he was sent to Texas A&M University in the United States on behalf of Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University to pursue his doctorate. During his doctoral studies at Texas A&M University, he served as a Teaching and Research Assistant. He completed his doctorate in 2001 with his thesis entitled "Ecological dynamics of the aquatic community in a Texas coastal salt marsh". After his doctorate, he worked for a year as a visiting professor in the Biology Department at Houston-Tillotson University in the United States, teaching courses related to his field. In 2002, he started working as a Research Assistant at the Faculty of Agriculture of Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University. In 2003, he was appointed Assistant Professor at the same university, then Associate Professor in 2006, and finally Professor in 2011. At Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University, he held positions such as Head of Department (2006-2016), Vice Dean (2009-2012), and Institutional Coordinator for Bologna and Erasmus programs. In 2016, he was transferred to Yozgat Bozok University, Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Fisheries Engineering, as a Professor. Following the closure of the Fisheries Engineering Department, his position was transferred to the Hydrobiology Division of the Biology Department at Yozgat Bozok University, Faculty of Science and Letters. He currently holds this position. Since 2016, Prof. Dr. Şenol Akın has continuously served on behalf of the Higher Education Quality Council (YÖKAK) in various universities, including: Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University - Academic Evaluator for the Institutional External Evaluation Program; Dicle University - Team Leader for the Institutional External Evaluation Program; Şırnak University - Academic Evaluator and Monitoring Team Leader for the Institutional External Evaluation Program; Bilecik Şeyh Edabali University - Academic Evaluator and Monitoring Program Academic Evaluator; Yaşar University - Monitoring Program Team Leader; İzmir Economics University - Academic Evaluator for the Institutional Accreditation Program (KAP); Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University - Academic Evaluator for the Institutional Accreditation Program; Beykoz University - Monitoring Program Team Leader; Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University - Institutional Accreditation Program Team Leader; Trakya University - KAP Interim Evaluation Team Leader; and İstanbul Rumeli University - KAP Evaluation Program Team Leader. Between 2017 and 2020, Prof. Dr. Şenol Akın served as a member of the TÜBİTAK ÇAYDAG Group Executive Board and currently works at Yozgat Bozok University. Between 2016 and 2023, he served as Vice Rector responsible for quality processes, international relations, applied research centers, and some faculties and administrative units. Prof. Dr. Şenol Akın, who is fluent in English, has over 70 publications, including nearly 30 articles published in SCI journals. With an H-index of 15, Prof. Dr. Şenol Akın has nearly 1600 citations to his published works, approximately 850 of which are from SCI journals. In addition, he has published book chapters and articles in other national and international journals, and has presented numerous papers at national and international scientific conferences. Prof. Dr. Şenol Akın, who has projects supported by TÜBİTAK, the EU, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, and the BAP units of universities, has been working at the Marine Ecology Department, Fisheries Technology Engineering Division, Faculty of Marine Sciences, Karadeniz Technical University since September 2025. He is married and has two children.
